The mid-Spring weather is quickly drying up mud winter created in Ukraine, turning it brick-like pathways. Much easier for men, vehicles, and supplies to begin the journey east to the front. There has been a significant increase in the number of IDP’s (Internally Displaced People) in the past few weeks as the highly anticipated Ukrainian counter-offensive is expected to begin soon. Though the electrical grid is functioning at around 70%, many of water pumping stations, communications towers, and healthcare facilities remain damaged. Many of the IDP’s had returned to their homes from temporary shelter in the western regions, as well as other European countries, to find houses and roads not usable and access to basic living supplies extremely limited. Fear of conflict escalation grows daily.
So they again seek shelter in less affected areas, living off the generosity of already stressed relatives….. and the charity of others.
Our efforts have been hampered recently by officials and authorities in Ukraine. Many aid groups report issues – we will be detailing more on this subject soon.
