The idea of creating small classrooms in the underground Metro (subway) tunnels is catching on in the larger cities that have such public transportation. Care4Ukraine.Org’s “Keep The Kids Learning” program installed many of early examples in 2022 – mostly as pop-up gathering places where children and young adults could feel safe. We are planning on installing more in October and November as safe and warm shelters.
Thank you for helping to make this happen.
“As of 13 September, about 1,000 pupils are studying in the metro in Kharkiv.
Radio Kyiv has reported that there are 62 classes in several shifts.
Some children are transported to the metro by bus, while others get there on their own.
Classes began on 4 September, each class has three subjects. Most of the students are first-graders, there are also junior and middle school classes, and a few senior classes.
The information that Kharkiv schools would operate in the metro was spread before the school year. However, most students continue to study remotely.
Previously, the metro school planned to teach 60 classes in two shifts, but there was a stir among parents.”
